Basil Hall Editions (BHE) was established in 2002. The studio is located in tropical Darwin in the far north of Australia and is available to artists and art centres who wish to collaborate with experienced printers in the production of most forms of printmaking.
In addition to its Indigenous and non-Indigenous clients in cities Australia-wide, BHE has worked in 2007-8 with over 150 artists from 15 remote communities in Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia. Boasting one of the most experienced teams currently working with Indigenous artists in Australia, BHE employs up to 5 printers, who regularly run printmaking workshops in Art Centres or host visiting artists in BHE's Darwin studio. The BHE workshop is fully equipped for etching, silkscreen and relief printing.
Basil has been working with Australian and overseas artists for nearly 25 years, as Director of Studio One in Canberra, Northern Editions in Darwin and Basil Hall Editions.

Basil Hall (2002 - )
Basil Hall - Basil is a printer, teacher and occasional artist. After a number of years as an art teacher, he returned to Canberra, where he had initially trained, and studied for 4 years at Canberra School of Art under Jorg Schmeisser, graduating with a BA (Visual Art) in printmaking. From 1987-1996 he was Director and Editioning Manager at Studio One National Print Workshop in Canberra, helping to establish it as one of Australia's leading custom printing workshops. In 1995 he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to research and work in studios in Europe and USA. Since 1996 he has been based in Darwin, working until the end of 2001 as Lecturer in charge of Printmaking at NTU and then Manager of Northern Editions. Since 2002, Basil has run Basil Hall Editions, where he and his team continue to collaborate with artists in the making of prints.
Merran has visual arts training, most recently completing her Honours at the Charles Darwin University, where she also gained experience as a custom printer. She joined Basil Hall Editions late in 2005 and has now become an important part of the team. Merran is an exhibiting artist and divides her time between making her own work and editioning at BHE. She and Basil ran the successful workshops at Buku Larrnggay in Yirrkala in 08, introducing Yolngu artists to softground etching for the "After Berndt" project exhibited at Gulkula during Garma Festival and in Darwin during the Darwin Festival 2008.
At left, Merran printing the large shaped zinc plate: "Kwod", by Dennis Nona. Merran has been involved in editioning many of Dennis's larger etching plates in 2007 and 2008 and currently works three days a week at BHE.
Clint joined BHE in 2007 , and is currently based in Brisbane, where he has been a commercial screen printer for the last 12 years. He has a nice boss, who allows him to come to Darwin when we have a project and he is thoroughly enjoying the range of work he's now able to help us with.
He has now made a number of trips to the Top End (four so far in 2008!) and completed editions for artists from Darwin, Ernabella, Warmun, Peppimenarti, Yuendumu, Tiwi Islands, Fitzroy Crossing and Arnhem Land. Clint has been involved in printing several of the Custodians print editions for BHE's latest project, including those by Judy Napangardi Watson and Jean Baptiste Apuatimi.
Jacqueline Gribbin was educated in England. Since her graduation from Norfork Institute of Art & Design, Jacqui has worked at a number of printmaking studios, including Edition Works in Japan, where she was chief Intaglio Printer and gained experience in Japanese woodblock printing and as assistant to the lithographer. From 2006, she worked as a Senior Printer at Singapore Tyler Print Institute. She joined BHE in May 2007 and helped run six workshops in remote communities. She also conducted a very successful woodblock workshop for Darwin artists at BHE. Jacqui completed numerous editions for BHE in her time here and her collaborations included Jean Baptiste's silkscreen for Custodians, woodblocks with Alick Tipoti and numerous Yirrkala artists on their woodblock prints.
