A trip to Hall’s Creek
Our second remote workshop for 2012 took place in late March, and Basil was accompanied by UK printmaker, Sarah Fountain. This was our first visit for 10 years to Yarliyil Art Centre in Hall’s Creek, Western Australia, so it was exciting to see the changes (they have moved across the highway into the old Shire building and canvas...

Surprised artist celebrates 55 in June
Skopelos Director Gloria Carr and Assoc. Director Jill Somer surprised Basil with a birthday cake at a local taverna. With only one of a possible 55 candles to blow out, and a gentle Mediterranean breeze, the job was done with little effort but plenty of facial expression! Happy Birthday, Bill (Vasilis).
Basil examining a proof of a woodblock print he made
During his two week residency this time, Basil made two reduction woodblocks using the hydraulic press. The studio has good drying racks and excellent weather for drying!
General studio view showing three presses
Basil at work using the hydraulic press. Two very nice Italian etching presses are in the background. Through the door at the top is a fine vegetable garden and shed, where Skopelos Foundation Facilities Manager, Giorgos, may invite you for a glass or two of local brew tsipouro to inspire you to greater heights.
Skopelos Residency at last! June-July 09

Many Aussie artists have used the workshop, including Dianne Fogwell, Gaye Paterson, Steph Bolt, Liz Jeneid, Basil (twice) and several others. The view, overlooking the town of Skopelos and...
