The Artists’ Society of Canberra once again invited Basil to run a printmaking workshop as part of their 2014 summer school, held in the Canberra suburb of Holt. We transformed a science laboratory into an etching studio – equipped with fume cupboard to house a small tray of acid for etching our plates – and eight artists spent the week with Basil making mono prints, dry points, hard and softground etchings and aquatints. Over 100 artists attended the ASOC series of workshops, which included a full variety of painting options in addition to the printmaking. In this picture from the previous year, participants are seen burnishing and filing plates in the foreground and inking up their images at three inking stations (rear). We used a new Heidelberg press (seen in the centre)
